Together, we can provide quality spay/neuter services to our community at affordable rates.

The phone calls come in every day. At Protectors of Animals the requests for low-cost spay/neuter services, as well as reports of abandoned pets, tell a powerful story of a growing need in our community.

In fact, there are an estimated 225,000 pet dogs, 272,000 pet cats and 150,000 feral cats in Hartford County alone. With 38% of household incomes under $40,000 per year in Hartford, East Hartford, Manchester and New Britain, pet owners just can't afford to have their animals sterilized.

As a result, many families in our community have to give up or abandon their cherished four-legged family members because of financial issues or undesirable behaviors that come with unaltered animals.

The scope of animal overpopulation requires proactive, preventative measures.

Overpopulation is a serious concern. Animals that are not spayed or neutered produce thousands of unwanted, abused or abandoned kittens and puppies each year. In seven years, one female cat and her off-spring can produce an incredible 370,000 kittens.

The costs of veterinary services continue to rise along with demand. Sadly, there are few options for affordable spay/neuter services in the area, which has let to increasing numbers of stray, feral and abandoned cats, and more and more abandoned dogs.
