Coral was barely more than a kitten herself when she and her litter of five were found by a Protectors of Animals volunteer. Their rescue by POA guaranteed them the safety that many unplanned litters do not enjoy. Sadly, their early weeks had taken a toll on their health: the kittens were diagnosed with distemper. This would normally have been a death sentence, but the POA vets and Coral’s foster mothers refused to give up on them. Coral proved to be a dedicated mother. The antibodies in her milk and the faithfully administered medication enabled four of the rescued kittens to survive. Coral and her family are an example not only of why affordable spay/neuter is important, but also of how POA steps up to save the animals that result without it. Coral’s first litter will be her last and they are all on their way to safe, loving homes.
